Something a Little Different
Something a Little Different - Flexible Sheet
We are always happy to try something a little different. This a 250 x 250 model proved too expensive for our customer. We scaled it down to meet her price expectations.
What would you use this for? Just to make interesting shapes? As a talking point?
We thought it could double up as a little prop for a guessing game, where you hide something underneath and challenge people to work out what it is. To give it a go, we slipped a couple of random items under there just to see what would happen. At first it seemed straightforward, but pretty quickly we realised the grid resolution, the chunky “pixel” size, and the sloping edges make it surprisingly tricky to identify what’s hiding below. In fact, the shapes get blurred just enough that you really have to use your imagination.
Of course, it helps a lot if you already know what a box spanner looks like — otherwise you’re left scratching your head and making wild guesses. On the bright side, that just makes the game even more entertaining, because half the fun is listening to the weird and wonderful things people come up with!
Something a Little Different for you?
We don’t just stop at 3D prints — we also design and custom-make box spanners, along with all sorts of other specialist tools. Sometimes it’s a completely new design to tackle a very specific challenge, and other times it’s about rethinking a classic tool so it works perfectly for the job at hand.
In addition, we create custom jigs and fixtures, which are all about making processes easier, faster, and more accurate. Whether it’s holding a part in exactly the right position, ensuring repeatability across multiple assemblies, or simply speeding up a fiddly task, a well-designed jig or fixture can save huge amounts of time and frustration (you can read more about our jig and fixture design here).
The best part? Every project feels like a puzzle waiting to be solved — and we love engineering solutions that combine practicality with a dash of creativity.

The sheet feels a bit like a cloth when placing it on your hand. It is interesting forming different shapes and landscapes.
See below, can you think of other uses to these?

Although the object is tall and circular, its base is octagonal due to the box shapes.

This diagonal object makes it look very hill like. In the top right quadrant the blocks are lying at an angle to make the surface look rougher.
