Design to Production – the GuvTool Motorcycle Coil Removal Tools
One of our earliest major projects was designing and 3D printing prototypes of motorcycle coil removal tools. Without a special tool, mechanics can attempt coil extraction using inappropriate tools, such as screwdrivers, risking damage to a coil's rubber seal. Heat and dirt essentially adheres the coil seal to the engine block. The mechanic can use a GuvTool to loosen and manually extract the coil, often in very restricted spaces. It reduces the risk of damage to adjacent motorcycle components.

Our customer was very keen to have different colours for each of the tool types for easy identification and that could be related to the motorcycle manufacturer.
Cased Set of all GuvTools
Once we at RAD Additive had developed and tested the GuvTools we were asked by our customer to design a case to hold the full set of 7 tools and blister packs for the individual tools.
We choose to fabricate the case using a supplier in China. We designed the removable tray so that each tool is friction fitted and is gripped securely in the tray. This design feature allows the mechanic to remove the tray and tools so the mechanic can place them in their own tool box should they want to.
The lid holds an information card with useage instructions on one side of the card and identifies each tool with an infographic image on the other side.
Motorcycle Coil Removal Tools - Individual GuvTools
We chose to develop the GuvTool and print them using clear ABS-like resin with colour pigments. This resin is resistant to normal exposure to liquids that may be used with motorcycles.
RAD Additive is fabricating and fulfilling these products on Amazon for our customer.
